FAQs

I am interested in working with you. How do I get started?

That’s great! You can fill out this form. After that, Dr. Lam will contact you within 2 business days to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to assess fit and availability for therapy.

What can I expect for my first session?

The goal of the first session is for Dr. Lam to learn more about you and your concerns. At the end of the first session, Dr. Lam and you will identify treatment goals and set up a weekly dedicated time to meet.

What can I expect treatment to look like?

Dr. Lam will meet with you through a video format for each 50-minute session. Although duration of treatment differs based on individuals and their treatment goals, a typical course of treatment will be 12-20 weekly sessions. After that, treatment goals are reassessed collaboratively and adjustments can be made accordingly.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is important here at Brain & Behavior Clinic. Contents of therapy will not be shared to third parties without permission. Therapy will be conducted through a HIPPA-compliant video platform. Exceptions to confidentiality are if clients are actively suicidal, homicidal, or report any minor/elderly/dependent adult neglect or abuse.

What are your fees and rates?

Dr. Lam’s rates are $300 for each 50-minute session. This rate is comparable to other highly skilled, doctorate-level psychologists in the SF Bay Area.

Payments are due at the end of each session. Most major credit cards are accepted.

Do you take insurance?

Brain & Behavior Clinic accepts Medicare. If you have Medicare, we will file your claims with Medicare directly, so you are only responsible for a co-pay for therapy sessions.

For insurance plans outside of Medicare, Brain & Behavior Clinic is considered an “out of network” provider. Should you want to submit claims to your insurance, we will provide you with a “superbill” at the end of each month to support your process. Please consult with your specific insurance company about reimbursements for session fees.

What is your late/cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you. Sessions will end after 50 minutes, even if you are late to the session. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide a 24-hour notice prior to the start of the session. Sessions cancelled with less than 24-hour notice will be charged the full session fee.
